Privacy policy

Skate Scout is preparing for closed beta. This page explains the main information used by the app and how beta users can request account or data deletion.

Information the app may use

• Email address for account sign-in and account support.
• Foreground location when you choose nearby route discovery or follow mode.
• Saved route IDs, imported route drafts, and route issue reports for signed-in users.
• Diagnostics, crash reports, and product analytics to improve beta quality.

Optional app-use measurement

Usage analytics is on by default for new installations. A previous choice to turn it off is respected. When enabled, Skate Scout records app sessions, discovery views, visits to public route details, saves and follow starts. We use combined figures to understand which routes are useful, improve the app and assess its audience for possible future advertisers. There are no visible ads in this beta.

These records use a random identifier for this installation. They do not contain your email address, precise location trail, private imported routes or text you enter. We keep measurement separately from account records and do not combine it across your devices. The identifier is pseudonymous, rather than anonymous, and is not an advertising identifier.

Measurement is optional. You can turn it off from Profile or Help without restricting the app. Turning it off stops collection and clears unsent events. Use Delete this device's analytics to request deletion of records already received. If you are offline, deletion remains pending until the server confirms it. Signing out keeps your choice and does not request deletion.

Measurement records expire after 90 days and are removed during hourly maintenance. Restricted database backups can retain earlier copies for up to a further seven days. These backups are used for recovery, not reporting. Our recovery procedure clears restored measurement records before reporting or collection resumes.

We use Supabase to store the measurement records on our behalf. The beta database is hosted in Mumbai, India. Internal reports suppress small groups. We do not sell these records, use them for cross-app tracking or share installation histories with advertisers.

Recorded skates and community suggestions

Record a skate uses precise location while recording, including with the screen locked if you grant background access. Pause or finish the recording to stop collecting locations. GPS coordinates, capture times and accuracy are saved in private storage on this device. Recordings are excluded from device backups and are lost if you uninstall the app.

To suggest a route, sign in, choose one continuous section, trim private locations from the ends and review the map. Only that selected route and the details you enter are sent to Skate Scout for moderation. Capture times, accuracy and the rest of your original recording are not uploaded. Suggestions are linked to your account and become public only after review and a separate publication decision.

You can delete a local recording from the app. This does not withdraw an already submitted suggestion. Account deletion removes your submission records and associated local recordings on the device making the request. Curated public routes remain available. Contact support@skatescout.au to discuss a submitted route.

Problem reports

Problem reports are stored for review and sent to support@skatescout.au with the route, problem category, report text and submission time. Please leave unnecessary personal information out of reports. Deleting an account does not automatically remove support correspondence from the mailbox.

Maps and diagnostics

Google Maps provides the maps in Skate Scout. Its software receives information such as your IP address, device and app details, a maps-specific device identifier, map interactions and diagnostic information to operate and improve Google Maps services. This is separate from Skate Scout's optional app-use measurement. Turning off that measurement does not turn off the information used by Google Maps when you use the maps. We use Sentry for crash reporting and performance diagnostics, including technical details about the app and device, so we can investigate faults and improve reliability. These operational diagnostics are also separate from optional app-use measurement.

What is not planned for MVP

• No location recording unless you deliberately start Record a skate.
• No advertising identifiers.
• No public user profiles.
• No payment data collected in the mobile app.

Account and data deletion

In the latest app, open Profile, sign in and choose Delete my account. Type DELETE and confirm to permanently remove your account, saved routes, skate history, GPX imports, account-linked issue reports and difficulty ratings. The app confirms when deletion has completed. You do not need to email us to use this option.

You can also use the dedicated account deletion page. This page is available on the web for users who no longer have the app installed.

If you use an older app version or need help, contact privacy@skatescout.au. Web requests are verified against the email address used for the account before deletion.

Deletion invalidates existing sign-ins. A temporary security record containing an account identifier, but no email or route history, blocks reuse of old sign-ins for 15 days and is then removed by routine maintenance. Curated public route records remain available to everyone.

Optional measurement is separate from your account. Use the measurement control on each device to request deletion of that installation's history; an account deletion request cannot identify unrelated installation records on your other devices.
